Mom jewelry used to conjure up images of mini stick figures with fake gemstones for heads, dangling from a chain. Or, god forbid, anything proclaiming “#1 Mom”.
*Shudder*
Thankfully, jewelry proclaiming your new mama-hood has come a looong way. And stylish celebs like Gisele, Heidi Klum, Cindy Crawford, and Katherine Heigl have all been spotted wearing mom jewelry.
I started looking around for the coolest jewelry for moms and came up with a surprisingly overwhelming list. Some are super subtle (no #1 Mom here!) and some more directly announce your maternity.
You & Me Necklace – This minimalist piece of jewelry features two handmade silver rings, one larger to represent mom and one smaller to represent baby, strung on a sterling silver chain. Extra rings can be added to symbolize additional children. ($49)
Moms Are Angels – Dogeared has been making cool, yet simple necklaces for ages and I love these gilded wings on a chain. The necklace, and accompanying card, celebrates all that moms do. ($62)
Imprecious – An emerging trend in personalized mom jewelry is capturing your baby’s fingerprint onto a pendant. This is made possible through a special clay which transforms to silver when fired in a kiln. Many craftsmen are making this kind of jewelry, including Rock My World who will even “fingerprint” your dog’s snout, should you happen to be a doggie-mama. ($88-348 and $75 respectively)
Julia Failey – Combining custom charms, gems and initials, Julia works with you to create a totally unique, totally you piece of jewelry. Kate Bosworth is all fan of Julia’s jewelry. ($50 to start)
Isabelle Grace Jewelry – Inspired by two curly-topped daughters, Isabelle Grace designer Claudia specializes in the simple but elegant. Working out of her studio in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, she handcrafts each and every piece using the charms, jems and words that you’ve chosen. Katherine Heigl, Tori Spelling and Alison Sweeney are just a few of her celebrity fans. ($92 to start)
Dalla Nonna – This is one of my favorites of the bunch, simply because it’s something I haven’t seen before. Celebrate the birth of your child by literally marking the calendar – granted, it’s a calendar made of precious metals and gorgeous stones, but it’s a calendar. They recently began offering the option of adding a cute letter charm to the necklace. Jessica Alba and Chelsea Handler are both fans of the calendar pieces. ($150 to start)
A. Jaron Jewelry – With celeb fans like Gisele and Heidi Klum, Amanda Jaron has certainly built a following – and with good reason. Her jewelry is whimsical, glamorous, and down to earth. And, she doesn't just make necklaces -- rings and bracelets round out her collection. She even makes a stick-family necklace that I can get down with. ($75- $310)

Similar to Isabelle Grace Jewelry but VERY affordable (about 1/3 the price)! I have a necklace with DD's name on one pendant and her birth date on a smaller pendant, I'll add to it with DS's name and birth date once her get s here... I've bought these for my SIL, I'm going to get on fore my sister when her baby gets here... and I'm getting a kid size "big sister" necklace for DD from DS :)
I have one like the Isabelle Grace one that DH got me for my birthday last year with DS's name and his birthstone <3
Rana, check out Etsy, as some of the others have suggested - you can find some very, very cool pieces there!
I love the Moms are Angels necklace. I saw this on the JIC site a long time ago and have loved it ever since. JIC is running a contest right now -- Gems Among Us -- to win $5,000 in jewelry - let's try to get our husbands to nomintate us!! ;)
