Gisele Bundchen doesn't realize we don't need any more reasons to hate supermodels.
The new mom to baby Benjamin credits breastfeeding for getting her back into shape. Although I don't know many postpartum women who look like this in six weeks. But that's cool, we all know weight loss can be one of the benefits of breastfeeding.
Furthermore, the supermodel and husband-stealer thinks if she can do it, why can't everyone else? In the September issue of Harper's Bazaar, Bundchen gets up in every mom's grill:
'Some people here [in the US] think they don't have to breastfeed, and I think 'Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?'
"I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months."

LOL
But I do agree, every woman should at least try to bf. And actual support should be given. Doctors do not count, for the most part, as their bf education pretty much is a few hours course. Women should help other women. Women should be able to realize that most women CAN breastfeed. Most. Not all. But not all women who think they can't breastfeed are realizing the truth-that they can breastfeed, if they had just stopped worrying and just fed their baby.
No law necessary, but it would be nice if women would stop giving up on breastfeeding so fast. I mean, if a bottle is so easy.....then who cares what is best for baby and mom?
Does she know how many women out there can't breastfeed? I mean seriously. Everyone should probably but if you can't you can't. There shouldn't be a law there are already too many stupid laws
I did not breastfeed and I will be quite honest and say I never tried. I did the research and she is right there is a benefit to you but most imprtantly your baby, but I decided not to for a few reasons. That was my choice. What I will say about the super model is she has alot of money and she can look like this no prob. If your job is flaunting skin you will do whatever it takes to lose the weight in such a short time. She I am sure hired a personal trainer. If I had the money heck I would too... I honestly think people need to be easy with how they approach breastfeeding though. I had so many opiniated people basically tel me I was horrible for not even breastfeeding. To each their own.
This is just another case of someone who has too much money and too much time on her hands. Women have fought for decades to be able to have freedom over their own bodies and she wants to "force" every mother to bf. Rediculous. Not every mother CAN bf. Not every mother is in a situation where bf is possible. The vast majority of new mothers work and you can probably count on one hand how many of those women can extend their maternity leave to include the first 6 months. Yes, every employer is legally responsible to provide a location in which a new mom can pump...but to most the corner stall in the public restroom is the solution. All women would be better off if she would use her super-star status to promote longer maternity leave, longer stay in the hospital post birth, more education and assistance for new moms, and more mandates protecting a woman's right to CHOOSE to bf. No wonder most of us think super models are just a pretty face covering a lot of hot air.
I am not at all supportive of Gisele's crap, but I do think it is unfair to call her a husband stealer and to bring up his ex. He is paying a ton of support to his son (I am sure) and also sees him regularly and as I recall, Gisele was equally knocked for saying she loved the boy like her own. So, basically men are no longer allowed to break up with women they don't love in favor of women they do? That makes them bad people?
Sasha, I don't think that's what she's saying. I think it's more that Bridget is a good example of a single mom . . . who generally doesn't have the luxury to BF for 6 months because she has to return to work much more quickly.
love it! but a law isn't the way to go. there are other ways to encourage breastfeeding. I have heard some say formula should be only gotten w/ a prescription. Not that I think that is the way to go either but it shows there is more then one way to work towards a solution. as for her painless labor I think she did hypnobabies or something like that. I did the same for my 3rd child and it made a world of difference. Love what celestegood had to say on this!
"absentee father" and "husband stealer" are not neutral terms. I think they are the kinds of terms that feed the stereotype of the "deadbeat dad," which by all accounts, Tom Brady is not.
No, we don't need another law "forcing" anyone to do anything. But I would be in favor of a law preventing the use of tax-funded subsidies to purchase formula, in absence of proof that the mother was physically unable to breastfeed.
Single working moms (and those cafemom calls "sometimes single" ones) can and often do breastfeed. The comments suggesting that being single or working makes it practically impossible are misleading and unhelpful.
Breast milk isn't required for a baby's lifelong success, but it is the most logical choice for most babies, and there certainly should be no government-funded incentive to choose formula.
