5 (Not) Diaper Bags That Make Baby Schlepping Cool

April Peveteaux

not a diaper bagHaving carried my share of diaper bags, I'm pretty much over the traditional look of girly bags that scream "baby stuff inside!" Perhaps you are too.

Getting creative, I've unearthed five fantastic bags that have worked as a diaper, bottle, wipe, and snack holder without identifying me first as mom, second as fashion victim.

Here are my picks for the best un-diaper bags:

Jill-e Bag

I've used the Jill-e Bag on multiple trips with my baby, quite successfully I might add. Originally designed as a bag to keep your tech stuff safe, the compartments double as a snack separator, bottle securer, and media holder when your baby is old enough to be enraptured by Elmo DVDs. The leather bag looks like you could just as easily be shopping on Rodeo as carrying a strategic amount of baby stuff inside. And it's on sale until July 31!

A friend sent me this beautifully designed tote and it quickly became my go-to when I wanted to look cute and trendy on a trip with my baby. Which is, like, always. It transitions nicely to coffee shop visits when I need my laptop at the ready. Making it a truly dual-purpose tote.

You can use a small John and Mary carryall for a quick trip, or grab the medium size for only $10 more and make it your regular baby gear container. I feel like I'm walking onto the ferry bound for Martha's Vineyard with the chocolate leather straps on off-white canvas version. You can too!

I've gone through my share of Brooklyn Industries backpacks for carrying my laptop around, and they can do double duty for diapers. The tarp courier is perfect for an overnight or an airplane ride when you really need that extra room for clothing changes, Ziplocs, and a zillion books. And it's super-cool, yes?

I just spotted this on Etsy and am in love. Or amour, as they say. I'm snapping up this fully lined with canvas, 100 percent cotton bag with eight pockets before it's sold out. I will use it for my baby boy, but I'm also taking this out in public, sans les enfants.
