Cristiano Ronaldo Names Son After Himself: Arrogant or Endearing?

Julie Ryan Evans

Cristiano RonaldoIt's another Cristiano Ronaldo! That's right, the soccer stud has named his baby boy after himself, according to family members.

"The baby is doing very well. We are looking after him while Cristiano is away," the senior Cristiano's sister said. "He's called Cristiano, just like his dad. Cristiano chose the name but we like it. He looks like his father and like me. He has the same eyes."

His sister didn't remark on reports that Ronaldo paid a surrogate to carry his child and to be quiet about it.

“He paid nearly a year’s wages but it’s more than worth it," a source told The Sun. "He’s called it the most expensive day of his life, but at least he has sole custody.”

But back to that name ... fortunately, my husband didn't have wishes to name our son after him, but I have plenty of friends whose husbands did/do. Some wives are fine with a junior, while others grudgingly go along with it or flat-out refuse.

While I like the idea of tradition and handed-down family names, I like a little separation between generations -- like a boy taking his grandfather's name or great-great grandfather's name. But a father choosing his own name for his son -- especially when he's a famous figure -- strikes me as a bit arrogant ... or unimaginative at the least.

What do you think of Cristiano Ronaldo naming his son after himself?
