My 17-month-old daughter is a daddy's girl all the way. She asks for my husband all day long, and absolutely lights up when he walks into the room. She would prefer him to me any day, and while it sometimes stings a bit, I absolutely adore their relationship.
There's just something about daddies and daughters, which Dr. Meg Meeker explores in her book Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters: 10 Secrets Every Father Should Know. It's not a new book, but it's one I consistently hear recommended and referenced.
Meeker believes fathers are the most important influence in a young girl's life to prevent things like unwed pregnancy, eating disorders, and drug abuse. She offers men advice on how to raise strong, confident daughters and how to be there for them in the capacity they need.
Meeker definitely has conservative ideals and does promote a religious component, so if that's not your thing, this might not be the book for you. But if it is, what a perfect gift for Father's Day for both the receiving father and his daughter.
