As a new first-time mom -- yes, I'm typing this with one hand -- I'll be exploring the often stressful, always magical first six weeks of little one's life with the scoop on things like car seats, cradle cap, cuddle time, and other newborn issues in CafeMom's Baby Boot Camp.

Cloud B Sleep Sheep; Amazon.comBefore Kavi was born, I read all about baby sleep solutions, thinking I was going to sleep train my little one early.
I know now that I was dreaming, but one of the things that I investigated that did help in those early weeks was a noise machine.
In particular, I have a friend who gifted us the sleep sheep, a cute little stuffed toy that looked quite innocuous. But within the heart of the sheep was a sound machine that was meant to soothe your little one. And it was soothing -- for the most part. It had a heartbeat setting, along with rain and waves ... all sounds that could lull both Kavi and her parents off to dreamland.
But when my husband and I were checking it out, we had a good laugh at the whale setting. It was a loud, looping sound that I'd venture to say seems like it would be a scary noise for a newborn -- not to mention her parents!
The sleep sheep isn't the only newborn sound-sleep solution. There's the Homedics Sound Spa Lullaby, also known as the infamous baby crack machine, which offers up a light show for your little one. But I worry that it might be a little busy for a newborn's sensitive eyes. And there's the seahorse, which I haven't tried but friends swear by.
In any case, we tried the sleep sheep. While newborn Kavi didn't mind it, she didn't seem to really need it much either. After all, she slept when she wanted and for however long she wanted, no matter what we did in those early days. And in fact, she still does.
Do you use a sound sleep solution for your newborn?

No, we never did.
no. lucky for us our son slept all the time. he never cried unless he was hungry. what usually worked for us was him sleeping on my chest. i loved the bonding time and he slept really well. now he rolls all over the place and won't sleep on my chest. i miss those days. i'm glad he sleeps through the night in his own bed though now.
