There are so many amazing firsts we get to watch our babies experience, from first steps to first words, but this video showing a deaf baby hearing for the first time thanks to cochlear implants is truly priceless.
It makes me cry every time I watch it and see the 8-month-old's face light up when he hears his mother's voice. Tears, happy tears.
What an amazing gift for modern medicine to give. According to the Deafness Research Foundation, more than 112,000 people worldwide have received cochlear implants. In the United States, about 23,000 adults and 15,500 children have received them.
Though the video was apparently filmed a couple of years ago, it's just now starting to make its way around the web. What a nice bit of good news and joy to spread for once.
Do you know anyone who has had cochlear implants?
