Flickr photo by Little SilverI'm not going to tell you it's not going to be messy, but finger painting with your baby can be a really fun activity to try. They'll love to experiment, and you'll get to admire their artistic expertise.
Your first thought may be of your baby with a mouthful of paint, which is why edible finger paints are the way to go.
Here are a few easy recipes to try:
Jell-o Finger Paint
Just add the boiling water to Jell-o until it gets thick. Add ice to cool, then paint a way.
Pudding Finger Paint
Add food coloring or brightly colored fruit juice to pudding.
Since those both taste pretty good and your baby (and you) may do more eating than painting, here's a recipe for Kool-Aid finger paint that's still OK to eat, but it doesn't taste all that great.
As for a surface for them to decorate, you can use paper plates, paper bags, newspaper, or anything else you like. Make sure it's a frameable size though, because you know you're not going to be able to part with their first works of art.
Have you tried finger painting with your baby?
