Getting to know our readers' babies ....
Who: Benjamin Alan (Benji), 4 months old, son to Stephanie.
Benji was born on December 30 after two weeks of on-off labor. His birth was natural and mostly uncomplicated, though he was born with the cord wrapped around his neck. He was placed on my chest for a brief second, then I wasn't allowed to see him for the next 45 minutes while they examined him. He weighed in at 8 pounds 5 ounces and was 20 inches long.
How long does he sleep at night? Every night is different. Most nights he'll sleep in a six-hour stretch, wake up to nurse, then sleep another two- to four-hour stretch, depending on when I go to sleep and when I wake up. Since we co-sleep I usually just leave one breast out of the bra so he can nurse while I sleep. It works out great.
What makes him smile? Benji loves when people talk to him. Just saying, "Good morning!" to him is usually met with giggles and squeals of delight. He also loves his rattles and a special Tigger lovey. However, nothing makes him smile like his proud big sister. She could make him laugh like you wouldn't believe. I've never heard a 4-month-old laugh so hard in my life!
How did you choose his name? I actually didn't like it. At all. His dad wanted to name him Bram, and when I put my foot down about that name, we settled on Benjamin Alan. Benjamin for Benjamin Franklin, who his father loves. Alan is my father's middle name. The name has since grown on me, but I call him Benji.
Any siblings? Yes, Kendall Marie, 20 months.
What's his latest milestone? He's been sitting up for brief periods of time unsupported.
What's his fussiest time of day? His fussiest time is usually at 6:30 p.m. on the dot. It's a little after we get home from work/daycare and he's usually pretty gassy from the supplementary formula bottle he gets at 3.
What will he do for a career? Oh wow, I have no idea. By the time he's old enough for a job, maybe his dad and I will have started the animal rescue we want to open. I hope he and Kendall love animals as much as we do, maybe they'll want to work with us.
