Photo from Jennie CanzoneriI've created a pacifier monster, and I take full responsibility for it. My now 15-month-old son had colic the first two months of his life and there were times the pacifier was the only thing that would soothe him.
I'm not sure if your child had colic, but if he/she did, you may know a thing or two about doing just anything -- pacifiers included! -- to stop the screaming.
Since he quickly became dependent on it, we stocked up. At any given moment, you could find five or six pacifiers in his crib. It was kind of endearing (the pacifier graveyard!), and it was also one battle my husband and I weren't willing to fight. The screaming kid is no longer screaming? I'm good with that!
But he's nearing the age when we should probably start thinking about weaning him off it. At least I think we should. Honestly, I'm not quite sure. It's definitely something I'll bring up at my next pediatrician's appointment, and you can bet when the time comes I'll reference this post filled with pacifier addiction cures.
But until then, tell me, when did your kid give up the pacifier?
