You were probably excited to start baby on his first real food and may not have imagined that he wouldn't exactly dig it. This happens to many parents -- and it's totally normal. Check out what a pediatrician and moms recommend doing if baby's not much of an eater (yet!).

Slow Down & Don't Stress

"Babies pick up on stress. If you're really anxious about the feeding process, the baby will pick up on that. Take a break and try again. Even babies that are really resistant come around and want to eat eventually. It can take a baby 20 times tasting a new food before they like it.

"In the beginning, when starting solids, it's just about learning to eat. Most of the nutrition still comes from breast milk or formula. It's worth noting that babies that are exclusively breastfed will need to have some supplemental source of iron starting at 6 months. If you can't get your baby to eat iron-fortified cereal, tell the pediatrician, who may want to get them on a supplement.
