See the pediatrician regularly to have your baby's height, weight, and head circumference checked. If you're concerned your child isn't growing well, see what an expert and other moms have to say.

Don't Listen to Everything People Say

"The best way to tell if your baby is growing is not necessarily by listening to the criticism of friends and neighbors. During each of the physicals that your baby gets every couple of months during infancy, we pediatricians check how your child is growing in terms of length, weight, and an important measure called the length-to-weight ratio. As long as the child is growing on his (and not on someone else's) growth curve and not crossing curve lines, that is a sign that the child is growing...

Don't Worry If Baby Is Healthy

"If her diapers are okay, she's hitting her milestones, and she's happy and energetic, you probably shouldn't worry. She may just be small. Some people are small, others are large. Just the way some people are built."

Consider Baby's Height, Too

"Weight alone is not the whole picture -- it would be interesting to see if he is following a good growth curve for height. That may tell you more than just the weight."

Go With Your Gut

"If you feel that your child is doing okay, then he's probably fine. People tried to tell me that my son was gaining too much weight but, for his height, he was and still is perfectly proportionate."

Big Isn't Always Better

"My son has always been small for his age, but our doctor has always said not to worry. He's hit all his milestones and his dad and I are small too! But if your baby isn't feeding well, has other symptoms, or isn't hitting milestones, then I think it is worth checking out with a specialist."
